Kern County Waste Management Department (KCWMD) has notified the Chamber about new commercial recycling regulations.  Starting July 1, 2012 businesses that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week and multi-family units of five or more will be required to recycle.

KCWMD has prepared a draft ordinance to address the requirements for businesses/commercial properties located in unincorporated Kern County areas.  The draft ordinance describes several options that a business or multi-family property can participate in to comply.

The KCWMD is requesting review, input and comments regarding the options and the draft ordinance. Written comments can be emailed to aurorar@co.kern.ca.us no later than May 31, 2012.  This ordinance is scheduled to be considered by the Kern County Board of Supervisors prior to July 1, 2012.

The ordinance is posted here for your review.  KCWMD is also willing to make a presentation to the Chamber membership, if there are enough affected and interested members to warrant a presentation.  Please email board@mymountainchamber.com if you are interested in a presentation.
